Harrisburg International Airport set a new monthly passenger record in June 2026, with 157,964 travelers—up 4% from June 2025 and 2.4% above May 2026’s previous record. It’s the airport’s eighth record month in the past year, and its second record in a row.

“As American, United, and Delta Air Lines have continued to increase service at HIA, the central PA region has responded,” said Executive Director Timothy J. Edwards. “Increased flights and larger aircraft to global hubs in Chicago, Boston, Atlanta, and Detroit have created more choices for business and leisure travelers to get where they need to go, more often and more conveniently.”

Record traffic is expected to continue throughout the second half of 2026. American (+17%), United (+19%), Delta (+10%), and Allegiant (+5%) all currently have more seats for sale through December 31 than they did last year—which was already the airport’s busiest year on record.

“We are grateful for the region’s continued support,” Edwards added. “As we continue to fill flights at profitable levels, we’ll continue to earn more service in the future.”

HIA and CXY Flight Operations Increasing as Well

Airports can’t set passenger traffic records without increasing flight activity. There were 5,235 aircraft operations at HIA in June—up 7% versus last June, and the most in one month since October 2018. Commercial and cargo airline flight activity is up 4% this year compared to last year, while corporate and general aviation flights are up 7% as well.

At Capital City Executive Airport (CXY) in New Cumberland, there were nearly 3,000 operations in June—up 8% versus last June. General aviation itinerant activity—flights by aircraft not based at CXY flying into and out of central PA—is up 17% year-to-date compared to 2025.

Combined, flight operations at HIA and CXY totaled 8,200 in June, bringing the year-to-date total to nearly 41,000 through June 30, 2026.

Depending on fuel costs, Edwards said, this could be the busiest year for aircraft operations in more than a decade. “Increased flight activity generates a larger economic impact on our region, as more people buy fuel, rent cars, stay in hotels, eat in our restaurants, shop in our stores, and visit our parks and entertainment facilities.”

In 2022, the PA Bureau of Aviation estimated the combined economic impact of HIA and CXY at nearly $1 billion. “We are busier now than we were when that study was completed,” Edwards said.
