June 2022 HIA’s busiest month since the pandemic

116,427 passengers used the airport in June 2022

(Middletown, PA – July 27, 2022) – Harrisburg International Airport (HIA) reported its busiest month since the COVID-19 pandemic begin in early 2020, as 116,427 passengers flew into and out of HIA, during June 2022.  The previous busiest month was July 2021, with 115,541 passengers. 

“While we aren’t back to 2019’s record traffic numbers yet, we are encouraged by the continued return of airline passengers to HIA,” said Timothy J. Edwards, executive director.  “We’ve been seeing more business and international travelers over the past few months, while leisure travelers continue to enjoy the nonstop, low fare flight option to the regions most popular destinations.” 

American Airlines has been the most popular airline (38% market share) followed by Allegiant (24%), Delta (22%), United (14%) and Frontier at (2%).  Over the first six months of 2022, traffic has increased by 43% over the same period in 2021 and is at 85% of 2019’s record.

According to Edwards, between January and May 2022, the 10 most popular domestic destinations from HIA have been Orlando, Atlanta, Chicago, Punta Gorda/Ft. Myers, Tampa Bay, Ft. Lauderdale, Dallas/Ft. Worth, Charlotte, Detroit, and Denver.

The most popular international destinations have been Toronto, Cancun, London, Punta Cana and San Juan. 

HIA is served by American Airlines with nonstop flights to Boston, Charlotte, Chicago, Dallas/Ft. Worth and Philadelphia.  Allegiant with nonstop flights to Orlando/Sanford, St. Petersburg/Clearwater, Punta Gorda/Ft. Myers, Sarasota, Ft. Lauderdale, Myrtle Beach, and Nashville.  Delta Air Lines with nonstop flights to Atlanta and Detroit, United Airlines with nonstop flights to Chicago and Newark and Frontier Airlines with nonstop flights to Denver.  Frontier’s nonstop flights to Orlando International resume in November.
