Emergency Training Exercise at Harrisburg International Airport

Training Exercise Saturday, September 20, 2025

Who: Harrisburg International Airport, airport mutual aid fire and Emergency Medical Services providers, the Pennsylvania Air National Guard, the American Red Cross, and approximately 50 volunteers.

What: Full Scale Emergency Plan Training Exercise

Where: Harrisburg International Airport, Middletown PA

When: Saturday, September 12, 2025, beginning at 9:00 AM

Why: The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) requires all commercial service airports to conduct a drill of their Airport Emergency Plan every 36 months.

Note: Due to federal security measures, all participants in this training exercise (including members of the media) must be escorted by SARAA staff throughout the exercise. Also, everyone associated with the drill (including media) must have a valid government issue picture ID and an airport issued event bracelet. Anyone found unescorted and/or without ID in a “restricted” area will be asked to leave immediately. Media should expect to be onsite until at least 10:30 am.

Media Inquiries

If interested, R.S.V.P. to Scott Miller, (717) 554-3691, Scottm@saraa.org

Deadline is 12:00 p.m., Friday, September 19th, 2025

Interested media needs to arrive by 8:15 am. Media parking will be provided in the HIA Cell Phone Lot. From the cell phone lot, walk west to the Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting Building to register, receive an airport issued bracelet and attend a safety briefing. Without these credentials, no access to the site will be permitted.

Directions: As you approach the airport via the airport connector, stay in the left lane toward the terminal and proceed down the hill. As the road flattens, the cell phone lot will be an immediate right off terminal drive—entrance is just before the large HIA sign. Be sure to look for and follow the blue cell lot signs into the lot.

Drill images and updates will be posted on X and on HIA’s Facebook page on Saturday 9/20/25
