Harrisburg International Airport has reached a significant milestone in its infrastructure modernization program with the installation of the first of six brand-new jet bridges, now operational at Gate C3 for American Airlines passengers.
The upgrade process began in June 2025 when the airport’s 22-year-old bridge was decommissioned and carefully removed to make way for the state-of-the-art replacement.

Enhanced Passenger Experience
The new jet bridges represent a significant advancement in airport infrastructure, offering passengers safe and comfortable passage between the terminal building and aircraft. Beyond improved passenger comfort, these modern bridges provide airline staff with equipment that is:
- Stronger and more reliable
- Faster to operate
- Easier to use
- More energy efficient than previous generation bridges
Comprehensive Modernization Plan
This installation at Gate C3 is just the beginning. Over the next few months, the removal and replacement of jet bridges will continue at:
- Gate A1
- Gate B2
- Gate B3
- Gate C1
- Gate C2
Federal Investment in Infrastructure
In 2024, the Susquehanna Area Regional Airport Authority (SARAA) received nearly $7.5 million in grant funding from the Bipartisan Infrastructure and Jobs Act’s Airport Terminal Program.
This investment will fund:
- Removal and replacement of 6 of the airport’s 12 jet bridges
- New energy-efficient preconditioned air units for the remaining 6 bridges
- New ground power units for the remaining 6 bridges
A grant application to replace the remaining six original bridges will be submitted for consideration in this year’s grant application process.
