HIA Passenger Traffic Soars 13% in 2025: Third Consecutive Monthly Record

HIA is experiencing unprecedented growth in 2025, with passenger traffic climbing nearly 13% through the first five months of the year. May 2025 saw 140,554 passengers arrive and depart—a 10% increase over May 2024 and a new monthly record for the airport.

May was the third consecutive month HIA has set a passenger traffic record and was the third busiest month in airport history.

2025: A Record Start to the Year

The May results continue the historic start to 2025, with 625,761 total passengers traveling through HIA from January through May—compared to 555,122 during the same period last year. This is a 6.2% increase over the first five months of 2019—the previous record for most travelers to start one year.

HIA has now reported an increase in year-over-year monthly traffic for sixteen consecutive months.

The Stage is Set for a Record Summer

Summer 2025 is shaping up to be the busiest in HIA history. Between June 1st and August 31st, travelers will have access to a 259,610 departing seats across 17 destinations—representing an impressive 18.5% increase compared to last summer.

Delta leads the way with a 28% increase in service, highlighted by a remarkable 56% expansion to Detroit and 16% growth to Atlanta.

United follows closely with 27% more seats, featuring an extraordinary 140% increase in service to Washington Dulles and an 11% boost to Chicago O’Hare.

Allegiant is expanding by 17%, as Fort Lauderdale service jumps 85%, Punta Gorda increases 34%, and Orlando Sanford grows 28%.

American Airlines adds 3% more capacity with Philadelphia service up 60%, Chicago O’Hare service growing 25%, and Dallas/Fort Worth up 24%.

Frontier service to Orlando International Airport is up 100% as they didn’t serve this route last summer.

More flights, to more placesmore often is a reality at HIA as central PA business and leisure travelers have more options to get anywhere in the world without big airport chaos.
