United Airlines now offers 4 Daily Flights to Chicago from HIA

Beginning today, United Airlines now offers four daily nonstop flights to its largest hub in Chicago, with more connections to cities around the world.  These are the most daily flights from IA to ORD since the COVID-19 pandemic begin in March 2020.

United Airlines is the largest airline in the world based on aircraft fleet size (more than 1,000), destinations served (more than 370) and the total number of seats flown annually around the globe.  United is central PA’s second most booked airline.

What is known today as Chicago O’Hare International Airport (FAA Code:  ORD), was originally called Orchard Field Airport in the 1940’s and was primarily used as a miliary facility.  Regularly scheduled passenger service began in 1955, and ORD was the world’s busiest airport between 1963 and 1998.  United began building its Chicago hub operation in the 1980’s and has served Harrisburg every year since.

Chicago was once again HIA’s top destination in 2024 as nearly 250 people a day flew between HIA and ORD.  For those United passenger connecting beyond O’Hare, the most popular U.S. destinations were Denver, San Francisco, Las Vegas, Seattle, and Houston.  The most popular international routes were Calgary, Vancouver, Munich, Tokyo-Haneda and Paris.

As the busy summer travel season begins in June, United will offer eight daily departures (4x to ORD and 4x to IAD) from Harrisburg making it more convenient to get to and from wherever you need to go.

With continued support of these expanded flights, HIA looks forward to earning more United service in the future!
