Between April and June 2025, total departing seats for sale on all five airlines at HIA will increase 16% compared to the same period in 2024.  One of HIA’s fastest growing airlines is United, up 29%. 

Currently, United offers five departures a day with three to its hub in Chicago and two to its hub at Washington Dulles.  Beginning March 30^th (or today), Dulles service increases to three times a day.  On April 8^th Chicago service increases to four times a day while on May 27th, Dulles service also increases to four times a day. 

United Airlines is the largest airline in the world based on aircraft fleet size (more than 1,000), destinations served (more than 370) and the total number of seats flown annually around the globe.  United is central PA’s second most booked airline.  When the busy summer travel season begins in June, United will offer eight daily departures from Harrisburg making it more convenient to get to and from wherever you need to go.

Dulles International Airport opened in 1962 and is the nation’s fourth largest airport in terms of land size at approximately 13,000 acres.  United began its hub operation at Dulles in 1986 and has served Harrisburg every year except between March of 2022 and May of 2024—service was shifted to United’s hub at Newark International Airport.  Harrisburg to Dulles service resumed on June 27, 2024, with the current two flights a day. 

Since then, it has proven to be a popular route for Harrisburg fliers which is why service is being expanded.  Beyond Dulles, the most popular U.S. destinations for central PA travelers have been to San Francisco, San Antonio, Nashville, Orlando, Denver, Raleigh, and Tampa.  The most popular International routes have been to Toronto, Montreal, Frankfurt, Paris, and Amsterdam.
