College Football at HIA

Harrisburg International Airport (HIA) is buzzing with excitement as college football playoff season takes center stage. HIA and its fixed base operator (FBO), Avflight, are helping teams, fans, and equipment make it to the games that matter most. Let’s look at how HIA is connecting central Pennsylvania to the heart of college football.

Avflight: Football Charter Flight Experts

Avflight, HIA’s full-service FBO, provide private and charter flight services that help get players, staff, and equipment to the game on time. Since October, Avflight has supported these football charters:

  • October 5: The UCLA football team departed nonstop to Los Angeles after their game at Penn State.
  • October 12: The Penn State football team flew nonstop to LAX to face USC.
  • October 26: The Washington football team returned to Seattle following their game at Penn State.

Avflight at HIA has also been a part of Susquehanna University’s historic NCAA Division III national playoff run:

  • December 7: The SU football team flew nonstop to Minneapolis and back after defeating St. John’s University.
  • December 14: Bethel University’s football team traveled to Harrisburg for a playoff game against Susquehanna.
  • December 21: SU will fly nonstop to Chicago for their national semi-final matchup against North Central College.

Avflight has also facilitated scheduled charters for SMU fans and their band to face PSU in a playoff game on December 21.

Passenger Airlines Step Up for Fans

HIA’s passenger airlines are also joining the action, adding flights to meet the demand of dedicated football fans:

  • Delta Airlines:
    • Added flights between Harrisburg and Seattle for Washington fans attending the October 12 PSU game.
    • Increased service between Harrisburg and Minneapolis for the November 23 PSU game against Minnesota.
  • American Airlines:
    • Offering flights between Harrisburg and Dallas to accommodate SMU fans traveling to the December 21 PSU playoff game.
