Harrisburg International Airport’s IT Department is committed to their mission of providing safe, convenient, and affordable connections for central Pennsylvania residents to the world. Kevin Bryner and his carefully selected team of hardworking IT experts contribute to the success of the airport by ensuring technology functions seamlessly, providing passengers and staff with a smooth and secure experience.
Intern to Deputy Director of IT
Leading the IT department is Deputy Director, Kevin Bryner. Kevin began his journey in March 2004, joining the Susquehanna Area Regional Airport Authority (SARAA) as an intern during his senior year at Elizabethtown College. Over the past two decades, Kevin has worked his way up through various roles within the IT department. Being decorated with hands-on experience and a deep understanding of the airport’s technology needs have equipped him with the necessary expertise to effectively lead the department.

Primary Responsibilities and Duties
Kevin’s primary responsibility is to guarantee that all technology-related needs of the airport’s staff and tenants are met efficiently and effectively. This involves managing computer-related assets and monitoring system operations to ensure they are reliable. By understanding these unique requirements of staff as well as tenants and finding technological solutions to meet their needs, Kevin and his team support the airport’s mission.
Supporting the Mission and Vision of the Airport
The IT department is integral to the airport’s mission of providing safe, convenient, and affordable connections for Central Pennsylvania residents to the world. They ensure the connectivity required for airlines to operate smoothly within the terminal and support systems that enhance passenger convenience, safety, and security. This commitment aligns with the airport’s vision of “More flights, more places, more often,” as the IT department’s efforts help create a seamless and stress-free passenger experience, encouraging repeat travel and justifying the expansion of services.
Innovative Projects and Operational Efficiency
One of the noteworthy projects Kevin has led is the implementation of a new GIS-based asset management system. This system, which also handles computerized maintenance management and inventory functions, addresses long-standing pain points related to the work order system. Slated for completion within 24 months, this project aims to significantly improve operational efficiency and streamline maintenance processes.
Team Structure and Future Goals
The IT department at Harrisburg International Airport comprises four employees: two IT assistants, one IT specialist, and the deputy director. Kevin coordinates work with the IT specialist, who then determines how best to accomplish the tasks, either personally or by delegating to the assistants. Looking ahead, Kevin plans to create a senior IT specialist position, providing a clear career progression path within the department. This will enable the current IT specialist to move up and open opportunities for the IT assistants to advance as they meet the necessary requirements.
Collaboration and Communication
Successful collaboration with other airport departments, airlines, and external vendors is crucial for the seamless integration and security of technology systems. Kevin emphasizes the importance of open communication channels with all stakeholders, involving them in the process and ensuring that everyone understands the expectations and goals. This collaborative approach not only facilitates project success but also fosters a cooperative and supportive working environment.
Measuring Success
For Kevin, the success of the IT department’s contributions is measured by the performance and outcomes of the systems and changes they implement. If the projects meet the expected results and function as planned, they are considered successful. This pragmatic approach ensures that the department remains focused on delivering tangible benefits and continuous improvements to the airport’s technology infrastructure.
In conclusion, the IT department at Harrisburg International Airport, under Kevin Bryner’s leadership, is a vital component of the airport’s operations. Through dedicated efforts, innovative projects, and a commitment to collaboration, the team ensures that the airport remains a safe, efficient, and welcoming gateway for travelers from Central Pennsylvania to the world.
