2024 July 4th Holiday Travel Tips From HIA

2024 HIA July 4th travel week expected to be up 8% vs 2023

Between Wednesday July 3rd and Tuesday, July 9th, HIA expects around 26,650 passengers to fly into and out of the airport during the July 4th travel week.  This is an 8% increase over 2023.

Mon., July 8—4,415                                                   

Sun., July 7—4,200                                                     

Wed., July 3—4,180

Slowest Days

Tue., July 9—3,150

Thu., July 4—3,350

1) Download Your Airline App

a. Use the app to check in for your flight 24 hours before your scheduled departure

b. Download your boarding pass into the app (You could also print the pass at home)

c. Have your credit card entered into the app as airline’s do not accept cash payments

d. Many airline apps track your checked bags as you fly

e. Make sure you always have a valid photo ID 

2) Know What to Pack and Where. Visit tsa.gov for packing rules

a. Know your airline’s baggage size and weight restrictions

b. Weigh your suitcases before coming to the airport  

c. Put your name on your luggage with a phone number and e-mail address

d. Place car keys and any medications in your carry-on bags—not in checked bags

e. Wear comfortable clothing

f. Wear sneakers—not thick or heavy shoes and boots

g. Limit jewelry

3) Arrive at Airport Early

a. If parking in HIA garage ($20 per day) arrive 90 minutes before departure

b. If parking in HIA long-term lot ($10 per day) arrive two hours before departure 

c. All checked bags must be turned in at the airline ticket counter at least one (1) hour before departure

d. Busiest times of day are usually between 4:30 – 6:00 am and 11 am – 1 pm

4) If Traveling with Children, Explain the Travel Process to Them Before Coming to the Airport

a. Bring things for them to read and quiet things to do

b. Bring small food snack items

c. Remember, all drink items must be purchased after security—visit tsa.gov for details
