New service to Jacksonville and Dulles begins in June
(Middletown, PA – May 29, 2024) – A total of 121,804 passengers passed through Harrisburg International Airport (HIA) during April 2024, an increase of 19.8 percent compared to April 2023, making it the second busiest April in airport history. April 2024 was six percent below April 2019’s record.
As of April 30th, 427,342 passengers have used the airport—an increase of 4.3 percent compared to the same period in 2023.
“American (plus 36 percent), United (plus 27 percent), Delta (plus six percent) and Allegiant (plus one percent) all produced increased traffic this April versus last April,” said Timothy J. Edwards, Susquehanna Area Regional Airport Authority executive director.
Summer traffic projected to be up 10 percent vs 2023
Edwards said May 2024 traffic is on pace to become the third busiest May in history, and with more seats for sale during the upcoming summer travel months, he expects summer traffic to be up as much as ten percent compared to summer 2023. American Airlines has added a third daily flight to Chicago, more daily flights to Charlotte and a larger plane to Dallas. Delta has added a second daily flight to Detroit on the busiest days of the week while Allegiant has added more flights to Orlando Sanford, Myrtle Beach, Ft. Lauderdale, and St. Petersburg/Clearwater.
New Nonstop service to Jacksonville begins June 14th
Beginning June 14th, on Monday’s and Friday’s, Allegiant will offer nonstop flights to Jacksonville, Florida. This is the first time regularly scheduled nonstop service between Harrisburg and Jacksonville has been offered. Jacksonville becomes Allegiant’s sixth Florida destination served nonstop from Harrisburg (Orlando Sanford, St. Petersburg Clearwater, Sarasota, Punta Gorda/Ft. Myers, and Ft. Lauderdale) and their eighth destination (Myrtle Beach and Nashville) overall. “The central Pennsylvania region has done a great job over the past ten years supporting Allegiant’s affordable and convenient service from Harrisburg, and we expect Jacksonville to be successful as well,” said Edwards. “If it does well, there will be more growth opportunities in the future.”
United’s popular Dulles service resumes June 27th
United Airline service to its hub at Washington DC’s Dulles International Airport (IAD) resumes on June 27th. During the pandemic, the IAD service was transitioned to Newark (EWR) for several network related issues. Historically, Dulles service has been very popular throughout our region as it provides convenient connections to more than 50 destinations throughout the United States, Europe, and the Caribbean. United’s resumed IAD service complements its three times daily Chicago (ORD) service by providing more flight options for area business and leisure travelers.
